TANGO MUSIC

Like the dance, Tango music originated in the late 19th century in the Rio de la Plata region, which includes Buenos Aires (Argentina) and Montevideo (Uruguay) from a fusion of cultures. The music of the indigenous people of the region combined with that of mainly European immigrants and grew into the genre we know today. 

 

Tango Music is characterized by its distinctive rhythm, instrumentation, and emotional depth.

A defining feature of tango music is its rhythm, which is typically in 2/4 or 4/4 time and is marked by accented beats to help the dancer.

Early tango music used very simple instrumentation, often just a guitar but developed to typically include the bandoneon, guitar, violin, piano, and double bass. The bandoneon is now seen as the most iconic instrument in tango music, and is known for its expressive sound.

Lyrically, traditional tango music often explores themes of love, loss, nostalgia, and longing, and is known for its poetic and sometimes melancholic lyrics.
